Andrew Donoghue
Founder and Lead Financial Planner
What first drew you to a career in financial planning?
Ever since I was a kid, I knew I wanted to help people with their money. I did not fully understand what that meant at the time, but helping people achieve financial security was something that interested me from an early age.
When I started looking for internships and jobs during college, many of the financial advisor opportunities I encountered were heavily focused on prospecting. I would be handed a packet and asked to provide contact information for 25 friends and family members. That experience initially turned me away from the industry because I thought that was the only path available to someone who wanted to become a financial advisor
How did your experience at JPMorgan Chase shape the kind of advisor you wanted to become?
I joined one of JPMorgan Chase’s rotational analyst programs because I thought working for one of the biggest banks in the world would be a great place to begin my career. After two years in the rotational program, I moved into a Portfolio Management position within the Private Bank, where I spent another two years.
In this role, I was responsible for the day-to-day management of a multi-billion dollar list of accounts across four metro areas for High Net Worth and Ultra High Net Worth clients of the bank. I traded accounts daily, helped teams create portfolios based on existing holdings and overall strategy, and had a front row seat within one of the largest asset managers on the planet.
It was a great experience, but I realized I wanted to do more than focus on investments and market commentary. I wanted to help clients with the broader parts of their financial lives and provide advice across a wider range of decisions.
Why did you decide to start AMD Wealth Management?
I left JPMorgan in 2025 to join a solo advisor who specialized in holistic financial planning, including investments, tax preparation, insurance solutions, and other areas. That experience allowed me to work with many different client situations and gave me greater exposure to comprehensive financial planning.
Eventually, I decided it was time to build my own firm, AMD Wealth Management. I started the business with a simple goal: help clients pursue their financial goals by providing solutions that are appropriate for their individual situations.
I never wanted sales quotas, new products, or unnecessary solutions to influence the advice a client receives. By being paid strictly for advice and not receiving compensation from other parties, I can focus on recommendations based on each client’s specific needs. I take great pride in the trust I receive from clients to manage their life savings, and it is not a task I take lightly.
What can clients expect when working with you?
I use what I call the AMD Process, a structured planning approach designed to first understand the person behind the numbers. We start by identifying your financial "why," your goals, and the priorities that matter most to you.
From there, I develop recommendations for how you can work toward those goals and help put those recommendations into action. For clients who want an ongoing relationship, we can also meet regularly for accountability, updates, and adjustments as their circumstances change.
My goal is to provide advice that addresses the broader financial picture rather than looking at investments in isolation.
